MODERATION is an integral concept of Islam and, surely, all major religions of the world. It is such a fundamental cardinal principle that it applies to all aspects of the Islamic worldview. Muslims are urged to conduct themselves in all interaction — whether social, economic or political — with moderation as the primary informing value. Only by so doing can peace be maintained and stability enjoyed. It is this message that the prime minister emphasised in his speech to the United Nations with regard to the current combat zone that the United States is passionately advocating: an international war front against the Islamic State (IS). In fact, the attack on IS in Syrian territory had begun even while Obama cobbles together a war alliance.
