GOMBAK, 11 October 2026: The IIUM Acoustic Band (IAB) will organise its Mega Audition 2026 on 23 October to recruit new members and discover musical talents among students of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), providing a platform for students to explore their interests in music and become part of IIUM musical’s community.

The recruitment campaign will begin with the IIUM Acoustic Band Flashmob on 15 October at Student Mall, IIUM Gombak. Featuring performances by current band members, the flashmob aims to showcase their musical talents, highlight the band’s activities and introduce IAB to the wider IIUM community.

Through these performances, the band hopes to attract students who share an interest in music while giving the campus community an opportunity to experience its musical repertoire in a lively university setting.

Following the flashmob, the IIUM Acoustic Band Mega Audition 2026 will take place on 23 October as the official recruitment platform for students interested in becoming part of the band. The audition welcomes students with diverse musical interests and abilities, particularly those skilled in keyboard, vocals, violin, wind instruments, bass and drums.

According to IAB Assistant Programme Manager, Br. Ameer Azieq, the audition also welcomes individuals who are passionate about contributing to the club, even if they have no prior musical experience.

“I would say don’t be afraid, especially if you are first year student, because the IAB audition is not just about finding talented musicians, but also finding people who have a passion and are willing to contribute to the club,” he said.

In addition to recruiting musicians, IAB is also seeking students interested in management, who play an important role in supporting the band’s performances and programmes.

IAB Programme Manager, Sr. Syafiqah Dania, explained that the management team oversees preparations, coordination and follow-up before, during and after each event to ensure that activities run smoothly and according to plan.

“For events held outside IIUM, the management team will arrange transportation, coordinate the programme flow, communicate with the event organisers and manage other logistical matters,” she explained.

She added that these responsibilities allow performers to focus on their musical preparation and performances while the management team ensures that the each event runs successfully.

Through this recruitment campaign, IAB aims to bring together students who share a passion for music while creating opportunities for them to explore their talents, collaborate with fellow students and gain experience through participation in a university-based musical group.

The combination of the flashmob and the Mega Audition reflects the band’s effort to expand its reach within the IIUM community. While the flashmob introduces the band through live performances, the subsequent audition provides an opportunity for interested students to take the next step and become involved in its activities.
