Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti Kamii (PPDK Kamii) focuses on offering the community based rehabilitation program pioneered by the World Health Organization (WHO) in the 1970s according to the World Health Organization’s Declaration of Alma-Ata (1978), that was adopted at the International Conference on Primary Health Care in Alma-Ata, USSR. PPDK Kamii was established on 8 January 2001 with its registration at the Department of Social Welfare of the Gombak District, Malaysia. According to PDK Kamii on its social media, “Every small act of kindness can light up a life, let’s fulfil our duty to support special individuals because together, we make a big impact.” In recent years, greater attention has been given to inclusivity and social responsibility, yet many persons with disabilities (PwDs) are still neglected. According to Tan’s journal article published in 2020, experiential events such food festivals play a vital role in promoting or catching the attention of people. The Gombak Food Festival 3.0 is a platform for promoting brands to celebrate the various foods that will be presented at the festival. The event held from 6 to 7 January 2026 in Human Sciences Square of IIUM Gombak gathers vendors from amongst PwDs and Gombak entrepreneurs.
At the Gombak Food Festival 3.0, Pusat Pemulihan dalam Komuniti Kamii or PPDK KAMII will be selling snacks like Muruk, Popia Cheese and other products such as bags and headbands. Rather than labelling the festival as a commercial event, there are other benefits that will be gained by the community-based rehabilitation centre, PPDK Kamii. The visitors will not feel rushed as the PPDK will be in IIUM Gombak for two days. This festival also can help us to gain knowledge about selected organisations that need our support.
PPDK KAMII was formed on 8 January 2001 according to Munirah Asbi (https://munirahasbi96.weebly.com/sejarah-penubuhan-pdk-kamii.html). It provides a special program for children and adults with disabilities who attend the rehabilitation centre. This includes ways to generate income by selling products. For the upcoming Gombak Food Festival 3.0, PPDK KAMII will sell products that will help them generate sources of income.
Although muruku and other products they will be selling are widely available in the market, PPDK KAMII’s products stand out because they carry social values. By purchasing their products, this directly supports the needs of PPDK Kamii. According to PPDK Kamii on its social media page, “Every ringgit goes to them, and every smile comes from you.” These items are produced by the students of the PPDK symbolizing the practice of inclusion, and the efforts in empowering them. The customers will love to buy products from PPDK because they will feel that the money goes back to the community and is not just for profit. The combination of quality and special purpose differentiates the products and builds customer preference.
Customers will be further convinced by the product’s social impact with each purchase directly supporting skills training and income for PPDK KAMII. This combination of reliability and social value reinforces the belief that choosing PPDK KAMII’s snacks is a responsible and worthwhile decision.
