GOMBAK, 19 December 2025: Mahallah Sumayyah Representative 2025/2026 officially launched the “Different, Not Less: Redefining Disability, Defining Ability” initiative through a press conference held in conjunction with the IIUM Disability Grand Awareness Campaign 2025.

The initiative aims to redefine perceptions of disability, foster empathy, and highlight the valuable contributions of individuals with disabilities within the IIUM community.

During the press conference, the representative of Mahallah Sumayyah and the programme organiser, Nur Ellysa Najwa, emphasised that the initiative seeks to shift public perception from sympathy to solidarity by acknowledging the strengths, abilities, and potential of individuals with disabilities. In addition, the campaign focuses on building confidence among individuals with disabilities through active participation in cooperative and creative activities.

The main event will be held on 20 December 2025, from 8.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m., at the Volleyball Court, Male Sport Complex (MSC).

It is open to all IIUM students and staff, both abled and disabled individuals, reinforcing the campaign’s inclusive spirit.

Among the highlighted activities were the Sitting Volleyball Competition and the One-Hand Drawing Session.

“This programme was organised to bridge the differences between individuals and resolve the stereotypical issues that exist in the community,” said Nur Ellysa Najwa, when asked about the expected outcomes of the programme.

The initiative stands as a meaningful step towards cultivating a more inclusive, aware, and compassionate campus culture.***
