Kulliyyah of Science Celebrates 25 Years of Anniversary

GOMBAK, 10 December 2025: The Kuliyyah of Science (KOS) celebrates its 25th anniversary this year with 201 new graduates, bringing its total of alumni to 4,321 since it was founded in 2000. 

The Dean of Kuliyyah of Science, Prof. Dr. Kamaruzzaman bin Yunus expressed gratitude to academic and administrative staff, noting that KOS has grown into one of IIUM’s strongest centres with graduates now serving in major organisations such as Sime Darby, Pharmaniaga, Maybank, Universiti Malaya and international companies.

“Our success today is the result of the dedication of every academic and administrative staff member,” he said.

Prof. Dr. Kamaruzzaman bin Yunus delivered his conferment of degrees during eight session of IIUM Convocation Ceremony.

To celebrate the anniversary, KOS organised various science activities, including the Pahang State Science Carnival featuring experiments, exhibitions, competitions, and a special environmental segment in collaboration with Jabatan Perhilitan. Alumni-led companies also sponsored several awards for outstanding graduates, showing the strong bond between KOS and its former students.

KOS has expanded from three departments to six, offering programmes in Biotechnology, Plant Science, Marine Science, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematical Sciences. With 116 PhD holding academic staff and two research centres the Institute of Oceanography and Maritime Studies and the IIUM Photonics and Quantum Centre the Kulliyyah continues to lead in research and innovation.

Looking ahead, KOS aimed to strengthen industry partnerships, enhance digital learning, attract more postgraduate students, and grow its alumni network.

Prof. Dr. Kamaruzzaman also expressed appreciation to parents and families, acknowledging their sacrifices and support throughout the student’s journey.***
