GOMBAK, 9 December 2025: Feng Shuting, the one and only Chinese female student in her programme, was conferred a Bachelor of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage (Usul al-Din and Comparative Religion) (Honours) during the seventh session of the 41st IIUM Convocation Ceremony 2025 at the IIUM Cultural Centre (ICC).

In an interview with IIUMToday, Feng Shuting described her academic journey as an incredible experience filled with unforgettable memories.

She shared the struggles and challenges she faced as the only Chinese female student in Usul al-Din and Comparative Religion. “I found it hard to get group members when it came to group assignments,” she said.

Feng Shuting added that she had to overcome language barriers and often felt lonely among the local students. However, she eventually formed meaningful friendships with several kind and friendly coursemates throughout her studies.

Her greatest motivation was being the first female student from her hometown in China to pursue studies abroad. “I want more parents from my hometown to send their children to IIUM to further their studies,” she said.

She hopes that seeing her success and growth as an international student will inspire others from her hometown to study at IIUM.

Reflecting on her journey, Feng said the most valuable lesson she learned was patience.

“Allah will open the way for me, and He will always give more than enough,” she expressed.

She also shared an important message for students who are struggling with their studies, emphasising that trusting in Allah is essential.

“You are never alone. Whether you are an international student or a local student, you will always have support,” she said.***
