GOMBAK, 9 December 2025: IIUM conferred a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) upon Arwa Hassan Saeed Elmogummer at the fourth session of its 41st IIUM Convocation Ceremony at IIUM Culture Centre (ICC) on 8 December 2025.
In an interview with IIUMToday, Arwa Hassan who is from Sudan and currently living in Qatar shared her experience as an international student who studied law in Malaysia.
She mentioned that the reason behind this was simple, she always looked up to study in Malaysia as growing up her family frequently visited Malaysia for vacations. She continued, “I didn’t have any other option in mind, I always wanted to study legal education in Malaysia.”
After completing her bachelor’s degree in February, Arwa Hassan went back to Qatar and started multiple internships at several law firms.
She also added that she will return to Sudan to take a special exam to begin her career in the legal field, “The exam covers all the subjects that I studied over four years in IIUM but it will be in Arabic.”
“The lecturers were helpful and understanding, they often translated some Malay language to English language to help me understand the subject,” said Arwa Hassan.
“My local friends were very supportive, they would translate everything in English, just for me to adapt with it,” she replied when asked about her emotional support figures.
She also expressed her gratitude to her parents for their unwavering support, noting that their encouragement helped her endure her time abroad and stay motivated throughout her academic journey.
Arwa Hassan also disclosed that she didn’t experience any drastic cultural differences between Sudan and Malaysia as most Malaysians are friendly and family-oriented.***
