IIUM Election Commission introduces the first-ever Centralised Campus Election

GOMBAK, 12 November 2025: All of the Kulliyyah societies elections, including the IIUM Student Union election, would be held on the same day for the first time in the history of the student representative election in IIUM.

Br. Shamshul Hariz Bin Shamshul Bahril, IIUM Campus Election Commissioner presented the new concept of the centralised campus election during the “Towards Transparent Elections: A Campus Perspective” forum at the ADM LT4, IRK Building, IIUM Gombak Campus on 12 November 2025.

“The decision has been made that the centralised campus election for this year will only have one polling day, which is on 19 November 2025,” said Br. Shamshul. He stated that workshops had been organised by IIUM Student Union with the Kulliyyah leaders to discuss on how the election will be centralised this year.

This year, the students have to vote for three categories: Kulliyyah societies seat, IIUM Student Union president seat and Kulliyyah representative seat in IIUM Student Union.

“The structure is the internal matter of the (Kulliyyah) society is the president’s responsibility. However, if it involves the entirety of the university, the representative can help you”, Br Shamshul explained the reason for having the Kulliyyah representative in IIUM Student Union.

However, the students need to give their consent to be a member of IIUM Student Union before voting for the other two categories.

The election commissioner also emphasised the importance of voting for the elections.

“The choices you make today will either ensure there are actions that will lead to the solution or will things stay that way for five or ten years to come? That is your decision, so you have to live with the consequences of your action”, said Br. Shamshul.

Before the forum started, the Former Rector, Prof. Dato’ Seri Dr. Syed Arabi Idid delivered a keynote address on the history and process of general election in Malaysia.

The event was also attended by the Deputy Dean (Student Development & Community Engagement) of AHAS KIRKHS, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tengku Siti Aisha Tengku Azzman.***
