GOMBAK, 19 July 2025: The IIUM Robotic Competition 2025 (IRC’25) is set to become the largest edition yet, with over 524 registered teams and 1,653+ participants, including international contenders from Indonesia, Mexico, Japan, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Morocco. Organized by IIUM Roboteam in collaboration with Makers@IIUM, the competition will be held on July 26–27, 2025 at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
This year’s theme, “Innovate. Reeducate. Collaborate,” captures the competition’s goal of nurturing global robotics talent and encouraging knowledge exchange across borders.
Nine Thrilling Categories Set the Stage for Innovation
IRC’25 spans a wide array of competitions that test creativity, precision, and engineering excellence:
- Autonomous Sumo 500g (Primary & Secondary) – 55 teams
- Autonomous Sumo 1kg (Primary & Secondary) – 122 teams
- Autonomous Sumo 3kg Magnetic (Open Category) – 22 teams
- Manual Sumo 500g Magnetic (Open Category) – 94 teams
- Creative Innovation (Primary & Secondary) – 38 teams
- Drone Racing (Primary & Secondary) – 34 teams
- Robot Soccer (Primary) – 74 teams
- Robot Soccer (Secondary) – 39 teams
- Time Rush (Primary & Secondary) – 49 teams
These categories will take place over two days, challenging students and professionals to push the boundaries of autonomous and remote-controlled robotics.
Massive Growth and International Recognition
Compared to its predecessor, IRC’25 has seen a 206 percent increment in participation—a testament to its growing reputation across Southeast Asia and beyond. The event has also gained approval from PAJSK (Pentaksiran Aktiviti Jasmani, Sukan dan Kokurikulum) andmaintains active collaboration with international robotics platforms like All Japan Robot-Sumo Tournament (ARJST) and ASEAN Robotic Day (ARD).
About IIUM Roboteam
Founded in 2007, IIUM Roboteam is a pioneering student-led club under the Kulliyyah of Engineering at IIUM. It comprises over 60 active undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students passionate about STEM and robotics. Beyond IRC, the club has participated in national and international platforms such as MA VEC, RBTX Challenge, ROBOCON, and UROCK. By combining competition with collaboration, IIUM Roboteam aims to raise the standards of robotics education and make STEM learning accessible and inspiring.
