Gombak, 27 May 2025: A landmark program, Komuniti Sulh 2025, brought together over 700 student participants at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), thus shining a spotlight on Malaysia’s Syariah judiciary system and its alignment with the national MADANI concept introduced by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Held at the IIUM Cultural Centre (ICC), the event was officially inaugurated by YAA Dato’ Haji Mohd Amran bin Haji Mohd Zain, the Right Honourable Syariah Chief Judge of the Syariah Judiciary Department Malaysia (JKSM) who represent YB Senator Dato’ Setia Dr. Hj Mohd Na’im Bin Hj Mokhtar, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) alongside YB Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohamad Fauzan Bin Noordin, Deputy Rector (Student Development & Community Engagement) of IIUM.
Dato’ Amran emphasized the synergy between Syariah principles and the Malaysia MADANI framework in his keynote address. He encouraged students and future policymakers to embed the values of compassion, justice, and community reconciliation (Sulh) in their professional lives,calling it a vital component of sustainable governance.
“Sulh is not only a conflict resolution mechanism in Islam but a reflection of MADANI valuesin action, dignity, responsibility, and unity through understanding,” he stressed.
The program was organized in collaboration between JKSM and the Secretariat of Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh (SOFI IIUM). The one-day national-level program featured booths by various government agencies, educational exhibitions, and plenary sessions on Malaysia’s evolving Syariah judiciary system.
The Chairperson of SOFI, Ahmad Azhan bin Azhar, expressed his pride in the program’s success, stating, “This is a proud moment not only for SOFI but for the entire RKFQ and BAHIM student community. We envisioned Komuniti Sulh 2025 as more than an academic initiative, it is a bridge between institutions, ideas, and generations. It is where theory meets lived reality.”
He also highlighted the importance of youth involvement in legal and religious discourse, “Our students are the future custodians of Islamic jurisprudence. Programs like this ignite their awareness and responsibility to shape a balanced, just society underpinned by Syariah and MADANI principles.”
The program began with a forum titled, “Rundingan Sulh: Mencari Solusi Damai untuk Konflik Kekeluargaan dan Komuniti”, co-hosted by JKSM and IIUM. This was followed by the official opening ceremony and later, a Muhakat Sulh simulation a practical demonstration of alternativedispute resolution in family conflict contexts.
Informative booths and exhibitions enabled participants to engage directly with professionals fromthe legal and judicial sectors. The program offered immense academic and civic value, with all participants receiving e-certificates and merit points in recognition of their involvement.
With strong institutional collaboration and visionary leadership, Komuniti Sulh 2025 had set a compelling precedent for future student-led initiatives in national policy discourse and legal awareness.***
