Under the radiant glow of a bright sunny morning of 15 February 2025, 70 enthusiastic members of the Jabatan Perpaduan Negara dan Integrasi Nasional (JPNIN) workforce gathered at Kebun Bandar Sungai Bunus (KBSB), Jalan Gurney to partake in a meaningful day of community engagement. The event was officiated by YBhg Dato’ Haji Che Roslan Bin Che Daud, Ketua Pengarah JPNIN marking it as a celebration of unity, health and sustainable living.

The day began with an invigorating session of Zumba, led by Shahrulaznan from BERNAMA, setting the tone for an energetic and spirited occasion. Participants were then guided on a brisk walk around the KBSB connecting walkway with Taman Tasik Titiwangsa by Tuan Haji Ahmad Shamsul, the Advisor to KBSB.

Celebrity Chef Liza and her team prepared a one-of-a-kind traditional menu, Bubur Asyura, a hearty dish infused with the unique sweet sourness of kelulut honey. The honey, harvested from an IIUM plot within KBSB, highlighted the importance of sustainable agriculture and local produce. Participants had the opportunity to witness the honey extraction process firsthand and taste the fresh purplish nectar straight from the hive, an experience that left many in awe of nature’s bounty. Since 2021, IIUM’s inclusion as one of the stakeholders in KBSB has led to the establishment of a dedicated plot within KBSB for kelulut breeding in urban community gardens.

Participants then rolled up their sleeves to clean and beautify the KBSB area, reinforcing the spirit of shared responsibility for the environment. They also harvested fresh organic vegetables, which were later distributed as takeaways, encouraging healthy eating habits and self-sufficiency.

As midday approached, participants were treated to a delectable buffet lunch featuring traditional Malay delicacies such as sambal bilis petai, gulai kawah and sambal tempoyak. These flavorful dishes delighted the taste buds while showcasing Malaysia’s rich culinary heritage. During the meal, esteemed guests, including Dato’ Haji Che Roslan and other senior directors from JPNIN took turns addressing the crowd. Their speeches emphasized the significance of fostering unity, promoting inclusivity and nurturing partnerships between government agencies and grassroots communities.

Tuan Haji Ahmad Shamsul surprised participants with an exclusive visit to the rooftop of Expressionz building. Located on the 50th floor. From this vantage point, attendees enjoyed breathtaking panoramic views of Kuala Lumpur’s skyline, offering a moment of reflection and appreciation for the city they call home.

The gathering concluded around 1.30 pm, left behind cherished memories and strengthened bonds between Jabatan Perpaduan and KBSB. As participants exchanged hugs and farewells, there was a palpable sense of renewed commitment to collaboration and partnership. The vent served as a powerful reminder that unity is not just about coexistence but about working together to wards common goals for betterment of society.
