GOMBAK, 25 November 2023: This week, 5,019 graduands are set to receive their scrolls on the big stage in the 39th IIUM Convocation Ceremony. In conjunction with this, during the Opening Ceremony, the President of the IIUM, Tan Sri Samsudin Osman, had uplifting words for the graduands in recognition of their hard work.

He expressed his appreciation to the graduands, emphasizing that the event was with the aim to commemorate their accomplishments. He also acknowledged their unwavering determination to pursue their studies and applauded them for it.

œIt is our privilege to witness the radiance on your faces, a testament to your dedication and resilience, he said.

He further commented that one of the most important criteria for being a human is having human values and he mentioned that the IIUM is working to instill these values in students by educating them on the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In light of current events, he referenced a Hadith by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that underscored our obligation to be mindful of the well-being of others.

œWhat actions are the most excellent? To gladden the heart of human beings, to feed the hungry, to help the afflicted, to lighten the sorrow of the sorrowful, and to remove the wrongs of the injured, he quoted.

Wrapping up his speech, he also appreciated the parents of the graduands for their support throughout the students’ academic journey and expressed profound pride in their entrusted responsibility to shape the students into torchbearers for the ummah.***
