GOMBAK, 21 May 2023: “Without the people, there is no leadership,” said His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah in his speech during the 40th IIUM Anniversary Commemorative Convocation Ceremony.Â
The King was conferred an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership by the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) for his great leadership evidently when the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the nation and the rest of the world.
His Majesty expressed that the recognition from the university is not individually acknowledging his achievements but also recognizing the values of his dearest people in the country.
œI had my fair share of experience in leadership matters and its significance first-hand in my line of duty, particularly over the past five years. Leadership is an integral part of my responsibilities, and these responsibilities were shouldered not for personal rewards or recognition. Therefore, the conferral of this doctorate upon me is truly priceless, and I am truly privileged,” said His Majesty.
In recent years since ascending the throne, His Majesty has come to realize the crucial role that leadership plays in uniting and propelling his people forward, also to seize opportunities and foster prosperity as a nation.
“I am constantly aware of their (the people’s) struggles and hardships, and I empathize with their plight while encouraging their aspirations for success,” His Majesty added.
The principle that guided His Majesty during his tenure as Yang Di-Pertuan Agong of this great nation is that a leader must always prioritize the needs of the people above their own and strive to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
The Commemorative Convocation Ceremony that was held to appreciate the leadership of the Malaysian King took place in the IIUM Gombak Campus Cultural Centre on 20th May 2023.
