GOMBAK, 21 May 2023: In conjunction with the 40th IIUM Anniversary, a Special Convocation in the IIUM Cultural Centre was held for the conferment of the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership upon His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Mustai’in Billah. It was presented today (20 May) by Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, who is the second Constitutional Head of the IIUM.
The exemplary leadership of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong became apparent as he stood shoulder to shoulder with Malaysian citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s compassionate demeanor was demonstrated by his assistance to the people, his motivation for front liners, and his encouragement to people to unite when combatting the COVID-19 pandemic.
The award of the IIUM Honorary Doctorate Degree of Philosophy in Leadership was decided by the Senate and Board of Governors to be conferred upon His Majesty the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong due to his exemplary display of leadership and stewardship and commitment to national and global humanity activities, efforts in establishing security and contribution to the nation’s development.
His Royal Highness the Regent of Pahang, Crown Prince of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah ibni Al-Sultan Abdullah Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, the Chancellor of University Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah also graced the Special Convocation with his presence.
The Special Convocation was attended by a total of 800 guests comprising foreign ambassadors, senior university officials, staff, students, IIUM alumni, and special guests amongst them.***
