GOMBAK, 28 December 2022: The 4th Communication Research Seminar (CORENA) 2022 by the Department of Communication, AbdulHamid AbuSulayman Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (AHAS IRKHS), was conducted on 20 December 2022 (Tuesday) via Zoom, welcomed scholars and industry experts globally and locally.
According to the Dean of AHAS IRKHS, Prof. Dr. Shukran Abd. Rahman, who officiated CORENA 2022 in an opening session, scholars, practitioners, professionals, and students should address the proper usage of communication tools, content creation as well as ethical knowledge in communication.
“We have good communication technology, gadgets and contents but some of them are malicious and fake, only to cause various counterproductive outcome,” Prof. Dr. Shukran explained.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Maureen Taylor from the University of Technology Sydney, shared some inputs in her keynote address on crisis communication in a Post-COVID World.
She emphasised the roles of public relations practitioners in rebuilding relationships with the targeted publics.
Prof. Dr. Maureen Taylor juxtaposed the past and future of public relations in crisis communication as she remarked, “Crisis is all around us”. She also discussed the pertinent academic frameworks of public relations such as functional and co-creational approaches.
In her concluding remarks, Prof. Dr. Maureen Taylor, stressed on the importance of crisis communication towards the novice public relation scholars and practitioners, in hope for them to help build a new future for crisis communication.
The opening session also witnessed a welcoming speech by the Head of Communication Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeti Azreen Ahmad, who noted the need to overcome a new set of challenges since people is now living in an unprecedented time.
The highlight echoed the theme of CORENA 2022, ‘Positioning Media and Communication’ which saw a total of 29 scholarly papers presented and discussed in CORENA 2022.
CORENA 2022 was organised by the Communication Department of AHAS IRKHS, in partnership with the University of Technology Sydney, Universitas Islam Riau, and Prince of Songkhla University International College. ***
