GOMBAK, 13 December 2022: Keeping up with the IRKHSSS Election 2022, eight out of 10 of the Chairperson seats were won uncontested, of which Ahmad Imran Mukhriz bin Badrul Hisyam was one among the eight who secured a seat.

In an exclusive interview with IIUMToday, the second-year Political Science student, Ahmad Imran Mukhriz, shared his views on his manifesto as the Chairperson of the Secretariat of Political Science (POSSA).

“Mainly, the focus of POSSA is to facilitate students in academic and curriculum matters. We also focus on the welfare of students and cooperate with the Department of Political Science to spread information,” Ahmad Imran shared.

Asked about his leadership experience, he said he started his leadership in POSSA during his first year of study as a community member of the Information and Corporate Communication Bureau.

Later, he was promoted to the Head of the Bureau in the first half of his tenure. During the second half of his tenure, he got promoted to join cabinet members as Secretary 2 of POSSA.

Imran stated that to be a good leader one does not necessarily have to be idealistic but rather ideally realistic.

“You don’t always have to promise the moon, sun, and rainbows until you forget the limitations in doing things beyond your capacity”, he said.

He believed that staying humble is the most essential quality a good leader must possess. For him, a leader should have the ability to see the big picture. In order to succeed, a leader must maintain an open mindset and be willing to collaborate with everyone. “Success is impossible without teamwork,” he added.

Imran also shared his opinions on the candidates that won uncontested during this election.

“I am uncontested as well. However, I should not be too comfortable with it. For me, no pressure means a lot of pressure. I would take it seriously and try my best to fulfill my manifesto,” he emphasised.

The manifesto declared by Imran included the following:

  1. To provide a systematic and Centralised Domain for students to refer to pertaining to academic and curriculum matters.
  2. To strengthen mutual cooperation with other secretariats by conducting inter-secretariat activities to share expertise and insight.
  3. To celebrate intellectualism, activism, and synergism by conducting discourse and in-field programs related to the field of Political Science.

In the end of the interview, Imran hoped that students will analyse and be aware of the candidates who contested, as well as their manifestos and work ethic.

“I hope that everyone will vote as it is part of their responsibility to choose who will represent the student’s voices.”***
