GOMBAK, 1 November 2022: IIUMToday family bonding and news training sessions were finally held in person at the Newsroom on Friday (28 October) after two and a half years of online experiences.

The one-day program consisted of two sessions, including the ice-breaking session with the new and senior members in the morning.

During the morning session, members were encouraged to interact in establishing cooperation and teamwork through mini-games while recognising each other’s wishes and expectations in joining IIUMToday.

Meanwhile, the second session continued with the in-house workshop delivered by the portal’s Managing Editor, Muhammad Luqman Hakim bin Mahari, and a training session with the Editor-in-Chief, Dr Wan Norshira Wan Mohd Ghazali.

The second session aimed to inform IIUMToday members about the in-house style and procedures to master journalism skills of writing and pitching news.

During the training session, the Editor-in-Chief, Dr Wan Norshira highlighted the importance of commitment in becoming a journalist where time management is the key to managing busy schedules as a student.

In the meantime, Muhammad Luqman Hakim said the participation in the training was impressive with almost 30 new journalists taking part in the event.

New members came not only from departments under the AbdulHamid AbuSulayman Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (AHAS KIRKHS) but also from other Kulliyyah such as Ahmad Ibrahim Kuliyyah of Law (AIKOL).

“It was great to see new faces showing interest in IIUMToday, despite this being our first time handling a physical training session two years after COVID-19, the participation was good,” he said.

He hoped the training would give them an insight into what the team was working on.

“These new faces surely will be the future leaders of this society since some of us will be graduating soon,” he added.

IIUMToday has always welcomed new people from different backgrounds who aspire to be journalists or are passionate about writing to be part of the family.***
