GOMBAK, 17 October 2022: Mat Kilau’s movie screening managed to collect a sum of RM 7,100 in a charity event on Saturday (15 October) at Main Auditorium, IIUM.
The charity event aimed to create a tranquillity garden was part of the Alumni Relations Division’s effort towards providing facilities to cater to the well-being and mental health of fellow students.
In an exclusive interview with the producer, Tuan Hj. Abdul Rahman revealed that the inspiration behind Mat Kilau’s production was to introduce beneficial entertainment where a positive message emphasising Islamic values can be delivered to the public.
“Beneficial entertainment is our main focus because a lot of entertainment out there is not only corrupting the people, but also damaging their morality,” he said.
When asked about the success of Mat Kilau and the breakthrough it has made, he stated that he was extremely grateful for that and hopes that the message in the movie touched the heart of the audiences.
He stated that the movie has made some tremendous impact on Malaysians as they become more aware of history and its importance.
According to Tuan Hj. Abdul Rahman, “We discovered that people crave for this sort of entertainment and I personally think cinemas should not be viewed negatively as it is a platform for creative souls to perform and deliver meaningful messages”.
He further advised the young film producers out there to produce good quality films that are meaningful and filled with good moral values.
“Creating and producing entertainment is good as it is in line with human’s nature and if one wishes to entertain, entertain in a way that builds your character and is in line with the teachings of Islam,” he added.
In another interview with one of the casts of Mat Kilau, Dato Jalaluddin Hassan advised the young actors out there to take their job seriously.
“To be an actor, you have to focus on what you do and understand both the character and script, but most importantly, you must use a lot of imagination when acting to deliver the best performance to the audience,” he said.
On June 23rd, Malaysia’s film industry welcomed the arrival of Mat Kilau where RM 71 million was collected 21 days after its release and has since totaled close to RM 100 million after being on Netflix making it the highest-grossing Malaysian movie of all time.
Alumni Relations Division organised Mat Kilau; Forum and Charity Movie Screening and was attended by 400 people including staff members and students at the main auditorium IIUM.
Other honorable guests included Rector of IIUM, Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak and his wife, Deputy Rector of IIUM (Student Development & Community Engagement), Prof. Dr. Akmal Khuzairy Bin Abd. Rahman, Director of Alumni Relations Division, Encik Mir Azrul, and cast member, Geoff Andre Feyaerts.
