GOMBAK, 18 August 2022: Education is beyond academic achievements, said IIUM Rector, Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, in the conferment of degrees to 610 graduates of AbdulHamid AbuSulayman Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (AHAS KIRKHS) in the ninth session of the 37th IIUM Convocation Ceremony held yesterday (17 August).

“The university has provided students with an education filled with soul and value. The soul and values should be able to help graduates create new wisdom for the future, which the world needs desperately,” he added.

In addition, he advised the Communication (COMM) and English Language and Literature (BENL) graduates to communicate with value and wisdom instead of using offensive remarks under the aegis of freedom of speech.

He explained that people nowadays lack virtue, and the word itself has lost its meaning and needs to be brought back.

For graduates of History and Civilization (HIST), he reminded them to understand the fundamentals of history to improve human civilization instead of reminiscing the past achievements of Muslims.

Political Science (PSCI) graduates were further advised to “lead the way to replace the corrupt political ecosystem” to make the world a better place to live.

Tan Sri Dzulkifli also called on the Sociology and Anthropology (SOCA) major to actively take the lead in offering solutions to humankind.

The Rector stated his hope that the knowledge and values that graduates acquired during their four years of study would be applicable for use as they faced the real world.

“The world never stops evolving and presenting us with new challenges. We must begin to exert ourselves to solve some of these problems with total sincerity and not just saying things without action,” the Rector concluded.

The ceremony ended with Shameem Rumaisaa binti Wan Suhaimi delivering her valedictorian speech and the adjournment of the convocation ceremony by His Excellency Dato’ Mahmoud H. S. Qattan, member of the IIUM Board of Governors.***
