6,638 graduates receive scrolls at IIUM’s 37th Convocation

GOMBAK, 14 August 2022: A total of 6,638 graduands of the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) received their scrolls at IIUM’s 37th Convocation Ceremony on Saturday (13 August) which was officiated by the Constitutional Head of the IIUM, Her Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah binti Almarhum Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj.

The first day of the ceremony saw 361 graduands receiving their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees, 1,064 receiving their master’s degrees, and 5,213 receiving their bachelors degrees.

The 37th Convocation Ceremony has 12 sessions altogether and will be held for six days from Saturday, 13 August 2022, until Thursday, 18 August 2022 at the IIUM Cultural Centre (ICC), Gombak. The Convocation Ceremony is for graduates who had completed their studies in 2021 as the ceremony could not be held that year due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the same ceremony, Her Majesty also conferred the Honorary Doctorate in Community Transformation and Islamic Dawah to Orang Kaya Maha Bijaya Gombak, Honorable Tan Sri Dato’ Paduka Raja Dato’ Haji Wan Mahmood Bin Pa’wan.

Also a recipient of a posthumous Honorary Doctorate is the late Dr. Robert Dickson Crane @Faruq Abd Al Haqq who was conferred a PhD in Civilizational Dialogue for his contributions towards humanity as acknowledged by the Dean of the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization (ISTAC), Professor Dr. Abdulaziz Berghout.

Meanwhile, the Health Action International Asia-Pacific (HAIAP) received the Ibn Khaldun Merit Award for Global Social Transformation at the Convocation ceremony in recognition of its contributions and services to society at a global level. ***
