GOMBAK, 2 July 2022: Tan Sri Samsudin Osman, Chairman of Sime Darby Berhad, was appointed as the new president of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) for the next three years succeeding the eighth president Tan Sri Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar effective today.
The universitys Office for Communication, Advocacy, and Promotion (OCAP) released a statement that the appointment of Tan Sri Samsudin Osman was consented by IIUM Constitutional Head, Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.
Tan Sri Samsudin, 75, has a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts (Honours) from the University of Malaya, a Diploma in Public Administration, and a Master of Public Administration from Pennsylvania State University in the United States.
He served as the Chief Secretary to the Malaysian Government from 2001 to 2006 and was the Chairman of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) for 13 years until his retirement in early 2020.
The new president also served as the secretary-general for the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs from 1994 and the Ministry of Home Affairs from 1996 before he was appointed Chief Secretary.
Commenting on the appointment, the Rector of IIUM, Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak said the appointment of Tan Sri Samsudin as the ninth President of IIUM would “further strengthen the development of this university which will celebrate its 40th anniversary next year”.
The new IIUM president was given a warm welcome through the university’s official social media platforms, Instagram and Facebook, in a statement “We look forward to achieving success and many more milestones under your leadership, InsyaAllah.”
The Board of Governors, University Management Committee, Staff, and Students of IIUM also thanked the former IIUM President, Tan Sri Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar, for his contributions to the university. ***
