EDC Appreciation Day to celebrate young entrepreneurs

By Nurin Najmina Zaidi

GOMBAK, 26 June 2022: The young entrepreneurs’ hard work and good performance were recognised at Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) Appreciation Day 2021 held on Friday (24 June) at the Banquet Hall, IIUM.

In an opening speech, the Director of EDC, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ros Aniza Binti Mohd Shariff, expressed her appreciation for the students’ hard work on their achievement throughout the years.

She recalled that IIUM managed to achieve all seven KPIs among the six public universities and was listed as the finalist of the Ministry of Higher Education Entrepreneurial Awards in the categories of Best Student Entrepreneur, Best Alumni Entrepreneur, and Best Mentor Award in 2021.

“Meanwhile, in the Best Social Entrepreneurship Project, IIUM managed to be the champion” she added.

The IIUM Rector, Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dato Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, emphasised on his speech that entrepreneurship does not belong to activities such as competition or winning prizes, or looking at how much money we made, but it is about creating a lifestyle.

“As far as the IIUM is concerned, our competition is about bringing this whole new idea into a new lifestyle, an Islamic lifestyle to be exact, so that we find out that at the end of the day, we are not dependent on anything”, the Rector explained.

“Entrepreneurship is all about exercising our own thinking, our own creativity that fits into our own destiny in our own mission of life and our principle of life,” the Rector added.
