IIUMSU condemns derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad

GOMBAK, 9 June 2022: IIUM Student Union (IIUMSU) has issued a statement condemning the derogatory remarks made against Prophet Muhammad SAW by two Indian politicians namely Naveen Kumar Jindal and Nupur Sharma of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

According to IIUMSU official statement, “Naveen Kumar Jindal and Nupur Sharma have crossed the line by making controversial Islamophobic remarks against Prophet Muhammad on Twitter and during a television debate.”

The statement issued on Wednesday (8 June) added that the blasphemous remarks have caused indignation and division among people and the provocative words made by the aforementioned political leaders have further divided the nation. The derogatory comments made are imperilling and may lead to discrimination and criticism.

On that account,  IIUMSU condemns any cause that may create major upheaval in unity, variety and harmony.

The statement said: “IIUM Student Union vehemently condemns any attempt to disrupt the harmony of unity in the diversity of races, beliefs and religions at all levels. It is of the utmost relevance to us to preserve the value of unity regardless of religion and nationality.

In addition, Islam opposes interfering with the beliefs and practices of other religions. Everyone must appreciate the religious and philosophical diversity of others, especially in today’s global multicultural world.”  ***
