GOMBAK, 16 May 2022: Youth from registered tertiary institutions in Malaysia are invited to participate in the Intervarsity Malaysia Public Policy Advocacy Competition (myIMPACT), a national-level competition to formulate policy recommendations regarding environmental and climate issues aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Encapsulating the three important elements in its theme, myIMPACT urges the youth to “Rethink”, “Replan”, and “Restore” when it comes to environmental protection and climate action.

Therefore, participants are expected to identify significant gaps in Malaysia’s existing policies related to environmental protection aligned with the focused SDGs and then advocate recommendations on policies to address the identified gaps.

The scope of this competition covers 5 out of the 17 SDGs – SDG 6 (Clean water and sanitation), SDG 11 (Sustainable cities and communities), SDG 12 (Responsible consumption and production), SDG 13 (Climate action), and SDG 15 (Life on land).

Students from all levels of tertiary education in institutions registered in Malaysia are welcomed to register as a group of four.

Participants will have the opportunity to network with Subject-Matter-Experts (SMEs) in the environment space and fellow students from all over Malaysia, as well as the chance to win the grand prize worth RM10, 000.

To join the competition, students must register their group and submit abstract addressing the related matters by 22 May 2022.

myIMPACT is organised by YouthCare Malaysia, a national-level non-governmental organisation. This youth-led organisation wishes to effectively unite, empower and mobilise the youth to care for the environment and society.
