GOMBAK, 19 March 2022: Education with value and ethics will be the education that will make a difference, but if used without care, it will destroy the world.
IIUM Rector, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak said this in his speech at the 14th session of 36th Convocation Ceremony that commemorated 232 graduands from the Kulliyyah of Languages and Management.
The Rector noted that education today tends to be almost devoid of values, ethics, and sometimes soul, leading to many mishaps in the world.
“You are different because IIUM graduates are equipped with value and ethics and also the understanding of soul at the same time. Graduates that can be compassionate, empathetic and also sympathetic and committed to the cause of mankind.”
He further said that IIUM has done its part to have the worldview and perspective of the students’ education in the right context, and that it is now the graduands’ turn to translate this into something meaningful and impactful to build upon in a way that will also benefit others, who have not had the advantage of educating themselves in this university.
“You have the attributes of khalifah, amanah, iqra’ and rahmatan lil alamin which are the key foundation for us. This university not only provides you with this set of values in mind but also in your heart at the same time, giving you back the soul that we have lost for a long time,” he said.
In addition, the Rector also took this chance to convey the university’s utmost appreciation to all the members of the Pagoh campus who have been working hard to uphold the good name of the university that serves the community despite being the youngest campus in the university.
He promised that the Pagoh campus will be a well-known campus for its subject matter in Language and Management as well as Tourism.
“We do hope that the Pagoh campus will be an iconic campus in the context of trying to bring knowledge towards the societal development and transformation which will nurture and produce humane individuals and the resilient members of the family,” he further stated.
This session celebrated 48 Bachelors of Arts in Arabic for International Communication, 70 Bachelors of Arts in English for International Communication, 58 Bachelors of Arts in Malay for International Communication and 56 Bachelors of Tourism Planning and Hospitality Management.
