GOMBAK, 6 November 2021: The naming of the Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences as the AbdulHamid AbuSulayman Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (AHAS KIRKHS) is to enliven the legacy of the second Rector of IIUM in a concrete way.
Dean of AHAS KIRKHS, Prof. Dr. Shukran Abdul Rahman said that the Kulliyyah community is pleased with the decision of the university to name the Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences after Almarhum Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. AbdulHamid Ahmad AbuSulayman.
“The Kulliyyah is indeed very honoured to organise this university-level event and we believed that this ceremony is an embodiment of our appreciation for the great contribution of Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. AbdulHamid Ahmad AbuSulayman for the formulation and establishment of this Kulliyyah,” he said during the officiating ceremony on Friday (5 November).
Prof. Dr. Shukran further explained that his great contribution in reforming the education system for Islamic studies, social sciences and human sciences should be appropriately incorporated through the naming of the centre of studies he founded in 1990.
“For all of us in the Kulliyyah, the naming of KIRKHS as AHAS KIRKHS marked the setting up of a launching pad for the Kulliyyah to multiply her readiness in playing her roles to prepare society to face the future.”
“This is also a magnifier for all commitment to hold tight in the mission of the Kulliyyah which was conceptualised by Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. AbdulHamid Ahmad AbuSulayman,” he added.
The Dean of AHAS KIRKHS also mentioned that the Kulliyyah will continue to work on the Islamisation of human knowledge, integration of revealed and acquired knowledge, and also the relevantization of the knowledge.
Meanwhile, the Rector of IIUM, Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak in his speech, expressed his happiness over the opportunity to name the Kulliyyah after the second Rector over his numerous contributions not just for the Kulliyyah but to the university as a whole.
“I have no chance to meet him but through my reading and the stories told by the people who worked with him, he was indeed a person who was passionate about building IIUM from the very inception to what IIUM is today.”
“Naming the Kulliyyah after his name is a small appreciation over the many things he had done but we will cherish and remember this person who devoted all his life and attention to IIUM, particularly this Kulliyyah to become successful,” he added.
Prof. Tan Sri Dzulkifli also expressed his hopes for the Kulliyyah to play its role more than what had been done in realising the spirit of the founder, and he expected the Kulliyyah to strengthen its role further in preparing the society for the future, particularly in the current situation where we are moving to the post-pandemic era.
The daughter of Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. AbdulHamid Ahmad AbuSulayman, Muna AbuSulayman through the Zoom platform from Saudi Arabia expressed her gratefulness over the acknowledgment of her father’s contribution through naming of the Kulliyyah that he founded during his rectorship.
Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. AbdulHamid Ahmad AbuSulayman is the second Rector of IIUM who began his rectorship in 1988 until 1998 and successfully brought IIUM to a higher state and helped in contributing to the great establishment of the Kulliyyah.
The futuristic strategy of Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. AbdulHamid Ahmad AbuSulayman had greatly brought the Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences to become the first centre of studies in the world where three main devoted laws of knowledge – social sciences, human sciences, and Islamic studies – are united and integrated.
The official ceremony for the naming of AHAS KIRKHS was officiated by the Rector of IIUM, Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak along with the Dean of AHAS KIRKHS, Prof. Dr. Shukran Abdul Rahman, and the Distinguished Fellow of Communication and Media Centre (COMET) and Chairman of BERNAMA, Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi.
Also present at the event were Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dr. Mohd Kamal Hassan, Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Syed Arabi Idid, Prof. Emeritus Dr. Abdullah Hassan, Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Paduka Dr. Mahmood Zuhdi, and Prof. Dr. Rahmah Hassan.***
