KUALA LUMPUR, 27 September 2021: Prime Minister, Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today presented the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) in the Dewan Rakyat which set the strategic direction themed ‘Malaysian Family – Prosperity, Inclusive, Sustainable’.
The 12MP for the period 2021-2025 includes nine main focuses, namely Boosting Economic Growth, Strengthening Growth Catalysts, Improving the Well-Being of Malaysian Families, Strengthening Public Security and Order, and Eradicating Hardcore Poverty and Bridging the Income Gap.
Also, the main focuses include Strengthening the Malaysian Bumiputera and Family Agenda, Boosting the Development of Sabah, Sarawak and the less developed States, Accelerating Green Growth and Improving the Efficiency of Public Service Delivery and Ensuring Effective Policy Implementation.
The Prime Minister said the 12MP, formulated at a time when the world was facing bitter challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, was an important plan to complement the National Recovery Plan (NRP) to restore the momentum of economic growth and achieve long-term development goals.
Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri stressed that a total of eight assistance and economic stimulus packages which started on 27 March 2020 had successfully stabilised the country’s economy and the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew again by 16.1 per cent in the second quarter of 2021 after contracting in the previous four quarters.
He said it would be continued through the 12MP which would enable the people to enjoy a better standard of living and even all its strategies and initiatives were in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development agreed by all members of the United Nations (UN) in 2015.
“We want to drive Malaysia towards a developed and high-income and challenge-proof nation in the future. However, this achievement is meaningless if there are still Malaysian families who are marginalised from the current development.
“We want to live happily together, as a family regardless of income level, religion, race and ethnicity. In implementing development, environmental sustainability must be the main agenda of the country because it will be inherited by future generations,” he said when presenting the 12th Malaysia Plan in the Dewan Rakyat.
The Prime Minister said he was aware that the Malaysian family placed high hopes on the government to address health and economic crisis.
The government received many suggestions from the public, MPs and the state governments, but due to the big need to protect the lives and livelihoods of people in 2020 and 2021, the space to implement development projects was very limited.
“This situation is expected to continue until next year. Therefore, the government’s development allocation is more focused on extension projects.
“God willing, we expect the government’s financial position to improve in 2023, when the economy gets stronger.
“The government will allocate RM400 billion to fund extension projects and new projects under the 12MP,” he said.
Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri expressed his appreciations and thanks to former Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who has been involved in the initial preparation of the 12MP document since March 2020. ***
