Former Chief Secretary Tun Ahmad Sarji dies

KUALA LUMPUR, 28 August 2021: Former Chief Secretary of the government (Ketua Setiausaha Negara or KSN), Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid passed away at 1.40 am today.

The sad news was revealed by the Chief Secretary of the government, Tan Sri Mohammad Zuki Ali through a Facebook post.

He described the late Tun Ahmad Sarji as a highly respected public administration figure and noted that his passing is a great loss to the country.

Tun Ahmad Sarji was admitted to the intensive care unit of Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (UKM) in Cheras due to the complications from COVID-19.

Tun Ahmad Sarji served as the Chief Secretary to the government from 1990 to 1996 during the administration of Malaysia’s fourth Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.

After retiring, Tun Ahmad Sarji was appointed as Chairman of the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (Institut Kefahaman Islam Malaysia or IKIM) and Chairman of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB).
