ROTU Army cadets experienced greatest fears

By Nur Khairah Alegria Suner GEMAS: IIUM ROTU Army cadets experienced facing greatest fears in their lives when they were armed with artilleries like life hand grenades, M203 grenade launcher and machine guns during the officers continuous training programme at Syed Sirajuddin Camp in Gemas from 11 until 19 June recently. During the nine days of hardcore training there, each cadet was given the opportunity to throw life hand grenades as well as handle shooting using GPMG and LMG.

œNeither civilians nor other cadets could understand our feelings when we managed to overcome our fears when handling the weapons. What we went through showed that we were capable of doing anything as long as we are up for it, said Senior Officer cadet, Nurul Nadia Satar. Nadia said the best experience that she ever had throughout her three years of being active in ROTU Army was the opportunity to throw life hand grenades and shoot life bullets. However, as shes graduating soon, Nadia was in a conflicting situation whether to pursue her dream career or continue to be active with ROTU. As for Junior Officer cadet, Abdul Muizz Abdul Rahman, he said the toughest training would be endurance training in the jungle. œDuring any training, vigilance and determination are important especially if you are the leader of the squad as most responsibilities rest with you, said Abdul Muizz.
