KUALA LUMPUR, 18 February 2021: The President of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Datuk Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan or MAIWP).
According to a post on his Facebook page, he obtained the consent for an audience with His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah, at Istana Negara on 17 February 2021 (Wednesday), regarding his appointment as Chairman of MAIWP.
His appointment is to replace Datuk Seri Syed Hussein Al-Habshi who previously held the post from 1 January 2019 until 31 January 2021.
Datuk Dr. Mohd Daud, also the chairman of Bank Negara Malaysia Shariah Advisory Council, is an international Islamic financial specialist and was awarded the national level Maulidur Rasul figure in 2014.
He also received the “Islamic Economic Award” presented by the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.***
