GOMBAK, 5 February 2021: A new online election management system iTasweet to ease and facilitate students in performing their democratic rights and responsibilities during the current pandemic is expected to be launched by IIUM Student Union (IIUMSU) Election Commission on 15 March this year.
A press statement declaring the confirmed method for the upcoming 2021 student union election has been released by IIUMSU Election Commission today, which includes an announcement on the system’s guidelines for candidates, eligible voters as well as details on election processes, dates and period.
According to the statement, the system is currently being developed and a pilot testing will be conducted in early March before being fully utilised for the forthcoming IIUM Student Union election.
IIUMSU stated that great measures were taken to ensure the best method be used in conducting an election during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, the press statement stated that the Election Commission had submitted a proposal to the University Technical ICT Committee (UTICTEC) on 10 December last year which was approved on 28 December.
The student union expressed the hope that the application iTasweet would ease out and facilitate the IIUM community in performing their rights and responsibilities during this unprecedented time.
