KUALA LUMPUR, 25 January 2021: The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) will review the date for the start of the second semester for the current academic year for public institutions of higher learning (IPTA) in the light of the increased number of COVID-19 cases.

Its Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad said she had received feedback from students from tertiary institutions on their frustrations with the current situation of some 4,000 new cases reported daily.

Following an online discussion with members of the National Student Representative Council (MPPK) on Sunday (24 January), she said the Ministry would consider changing the date for Semester 2, 2020/2021 academic year, which is scheduled to begin in March.

Dr. Noraini said MPPK had presented the results of their survey on the possibility of the proposed readmission of students to the institutions.

“All the proposals will be considered by the Ministry’s top management, taking into account the short-term and long-term effects in the interest of the country and the students, ” she said in a Facebook posting on Monday (25 January).

Dr. Noraini said any decision would be announced at least a month in advance so that students could make appropriate preparations.***
