GOMBAK, 2 January 2021: Malaysia continues to record an increase of new COVID-19 cases today at 2, 295 with nine deaths bringing the total of confirmed cases to 117, 373 and current active cases to 22,398 cases.
Of the new cases, nine are imported.
Selangor continues to become the highest contributor to daily cases which is at 638 cases. The second highest figure of cases today comes from Johor with 580 cases followed by Pulau Pinang with 288 cases.
The Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah stated that a total of 135 cases today are linked with clusters at lockups and immigration detention centre.
It is also reported that among those clusters involve cases from prisons which include Penjara Jalan Harapan cluster (109 cases), Tembok Gajah cluster (14 cases), Kolam Air cluster (3 cases), Tembok cluster (3 cases), Penjara Seberang Perai cluster (3 cases), Tembok Mempaga cluster (2 cases) and Tembok Choh cluster (1 case).
Additionally, 3, 321 recovery cases are reported today, making the total of recovered patients to 94,492
Meanwhile, the death toll in the nation increases to 483 cases following nine deaths of local citizens.
To date, a total of 125 cases are treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) with 51 patients in need of ventilator support.***
