Students remain in high spirit despite COVID-19 pandemic

GOMBAK, 18 November 2020: Despite the COVID-19 pandemic students remained in high spirit as revealed when winners of Grand Mental Health Month Programme 2020 competitions (GMHMP 2020) were announced during the closing ceremony on Tuesday (17 November).

GMHMP 2020 was an inaugural mental health awareness programme organised by Counselling and Career Services (CCSC).

This programme which commenced on 6 October and marked its ending on 16 November, is aimed for spreading awareness regarding mental health throughout the IIUM community.

As GMHMP 2020 was a first programme of its kind, CCSC conducted several competitions to attract students’ participation.

The competitions were divided into individual competition and Inter-mahallah competition. There were two categories for individual competition; Cute Cat Video Competition and Video Competition.

Meanwhile, the Inter-mahallah competition oversaw four different categories: Poem Competition in Malay and English Category, Banner Category, and Mental Health Corner Category.

Simultaneously, there was lucky draw issued for three loyal viewers of Talkathon series.

The GMHMP 2020 was held at Experimental Hall, Rectory Building and broadcast live through CCSC Facebook Page.

In order to obey standard operating procedure (SOP) for Controlled Movement Control Order (CMCO), the audiences were limited only to Mahallah Principals, CCSC staffs and related members. Therefore, individual competition winners will have to collect their prizes at office, meanwhile Mahallah Principals would become the representatives for Inter-mahallah competition winners.

Prizes were handed out to the winners by IIUM Rector, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, accompanied by Saiful Redza and Khairiah Abdul Razak, the Chairman and Programme Manager for GMHMP 2020.

Following is the list of winners for all competitions conducted under GMHMP 2020.

Individual Competition

1. Cute Cat Competition

  • Champion: itsdeeandna
  • First Runner – Up: ct.amirahazhar
  • Second Runner – Up: Hakim Mahyuddin
  • Third Runner – Up: orkaraked
  • Fourth Runner – Up: Mahallah Sumayyah

2. Video Competition

  • Champion: Ahmad Adam Osman Nurhazli
  • First Runner – Up: Mohammad Haikal Adnin Mohd Naim
  • Second Runner – Up: Nurul Syakirah Binti Norhan

Lucky Draw

  • Champion: Norasita Zainal (ARD)
  • First Runner – Up: Zulaikha
  • Second Runner – Up: Dr. Suhaimi (KENMS)

Intermahallah Competition

1. Poem Recitation (Malay Category)

  • Champion: Mahallah Zaid Harithah – Mohammad Syamsul Kamal Salleh
  • First Runner – Up: Mahallah Sumayyah – Siti Nur Alia Safri
  • Second Runner – Up: Mahallah Halimatus Sa’adiah – Siti Nur Aqilah Sanadi & Amirah Mohd Sukarno

2. Poem Recitation (English Category)

  • Champion: Mahallah Asma’ – Siti Noor Namirah Hasinah Noor Raziff
  • First Runner – Up: Mahallah Halimatus Sa’adiah – Nurul Fatihah Masrom

  1. According to Dr. Zulkifli, the spirit of unity and working together among offices and students despite the COVID-19 pandemic is beyond his expectation. IIUM, which has championed in its spirit of unity must leverage on it in order to take IIUM to a greater height.
