By Tuan Nurul Iffah Binti Tuan Ismail

GOMBAK, 30 August 2020: Last few weekends witnessed the Integrated and Sustainable Agriculture Farming (InSAF) research group, led by Prof. Ts Dr. Azura Amid under preview of the International Institute for Halal Research and Training (INHART), and several Research Management Centre (RMC) staff led by Madam Haslina Shamsuddin, joining forces to upgrade the existing RMC’s edible garden.

InSAF research group was established in September 2019 under INHART at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). The group aims to work towards enhancing the culture of an integrated and sustainable farming system based on the Maqasid al-Shariah for food security application and sustainable development goals.

InSAF is a program that gives awareness and trains people on the correct agriculture practice that does not harm the environment. Inspired by Prof. Ts Dr. Azura Amid, this garden makeover aims for Malaysia to have better food security index and food sovereignty at the same time still protecting the environment.

During that time it was informed that they shared the same interest and work in a team and the whole team will solve the problem together, therefore the problem is not a big deal in InSAF.

A few dedicated students like Muhammad Darwisy Roslan, Nurul Nabilah Omar, Hakeem Hamzah, Nurizzah Zukifli, Nor Amira Zainuddin, Hafiz Keeya, Muhammad Hafizuddin Hamid, Muhammad Ridhuan Mohd Shihabuddin, Md Muhibbullah, and Muhammad Hanif Mohd Fadzali had also volunteered in making the garden.

As a result of their hard work and dedication, RMC edible garden is now a place for staff and students to enjoy the scenery of fresh green vegetables coupled with the scent of Jasminum officinae (Jasmine), and Vallaris glabra (Kesidang) which may help reduce stress level during the examination period.

Construction of the edible garden is in line with INHART’s vision and mission in promoting Halal and Tayyib lifestyle. ***
