KOTA KINABALU, 27 February 2020: IIUM student specialising in Quran and Sunnah, Nurul Izzah binti Mukhali was crowned first place (Hafizah Division) in “Majlis Tilawah dan Menghafaz Quran Kebangsaan (MTHQK) 1441H / 2020M” that was held from 16 to 21 February at the Sabah International Convention Centre in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
Born in Sarawak, Nurul Izzah recited the Quran, Articles 1 – 10 with Tarannum. The third of the five siblings brought home RM5,000 cash and an accompanying trophy.
“Among the practices I have always been doing are to repeat, tasmi’ and pat each Jukuk, re-check the wrong place and not forgetting to pray for mom and dad,” said Nurul Izzah who shared her practice of reciting the Quran.
“Read the Qur’an every day because with the asbestos of the Quran our hearts will be at ease, things will be simplified and we will always be happy,” she said.
At the same time, another IIUM student, Siti Masitah Mohamad Maarof, a second-year student of Quran Sunnah, took third place in the category of other Quranic events of the 1-30 Quran with the interpretation of Hafizah section representing the state of Selangor.
Other IIUM students who participated in the MTQHK this time were Wan Muhammad Adam bin Wan Mohamad Fathi (Terengganu – Prophecy of Masjid 1-30 with Interpretation) of Kulliyyah Engineering and Nur Natasha Azeze bint Shariman Azeze (Negeri Sembilan – Islamic Quran Reading) from Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences.
