MELAKA, 17 December 2019 –IIUM Mustangs E-Sports Dota (2) team successfully garnered the winning title at Masum E-Sports Championship 2019 (MEC) that was held on 12-15 December at Ancient Galaxy E-Sports Hub, Melaka.
IIUM Mustangs E-Sports team also sent out the Mobile Legend:Bang Bang (MLBB) team where they got first runner up and Pro Evaluation Soccer (PES2019) team which managed to strive until top 6.
Commenting on the victory, team manager of Dota 2, Faisal Zulkifli said, “I am very proud of my team as they brought a victory to IIUM on the first E-Sports championship conducted by Majlis Sukan Universiti Malaysia (MASUM).”
Asked on the preparations for the championship, Faisal said that they had a lot of training together. He also added that good communication between team members is what helped them to succeed.
With the recent launching of the first GamesMy studio in Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology (KICT), it can be seen as the platform for students to engage more in E-Sports.
Many IIUM students are starting to express their interest to sign up for the IIUM E-Sports club as IIUM is moving towards E-Sports friendly.
With the hope that there will be substitutes for the E-Sports athletes in the future, Faisal expressed the hope that the IIUM community will be more aware of the IIUM E-Sports team.
The championship was hosted by University Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) where students from other universities took part, which included IIUM Mustangs, who sent three E-Sports teams (Dota (2), PES2019, MLBB. ***
