GOMBAK, 5 December 2019: Representatives from Shopee, SWIFT, and Standard Chartered were guest speakers for a forum titled ˜What We Need from Graduates and successfully shared a few useful tips for graduating students, specially for Fly High 7.0 programme.
The discussion on Wednesday (4 December) was led by Saiful Reza, Head Counsellor from Counselling and Career Services Centre of IIUM, along with three speakers, who are the Employer Branding Lead from Shopee, Kenneth Lee, the head, talent acquisition of SWIFT support services, Pavitra Rathna Krishnan, and lastly head of Syariah from Standard Chartered, Saadiq, Madam Faezah Abdullah.
Pavitra stated three values that they (SWIFT) need from fresh graduates which are open-minded and accountability or curious person, have a good sense of teamwork, and customer oriented. She added œIt was also about how you put your own effort to improve yourself.
While from Mdm Faezah’s point of view, she said, œOther than become a good team player, good communication skill is importantly needed from candidates or fresh graduates. Besides that, from Standard Chartered’s perspective, graduates should have initiative, be proactive, creative, and always think out of the box.
She added, œ If you do not have good skills, you will have difficulties in your career path.
Kenneth added a few tips that graduates should do during interview session and in preparing resume or curriculum vitae (CV). He said, “For interview session, you should be prepared with ideas and show you curiosity. However, too much information and too talkative is also not good. Same goes to your CV. Make it short in one page, complete with important details.”
All speakers gave their final words of advice wishing all graduating students all the best and hoping for students’ success in their career.
