I-Congrats ‘19 ‘Rewang’ serves free meal to 800 students

GOMBAK, 24 November 2019: Almost 800 meals were distributed to IIUM students yesterday (23 November) at Rewang programme for IIUM Convocation Grand Festival 2019 (I-Congrats ’19).

Rewang is the third-day programme under I-Congrats ‘19 as part of its community service initiative in conjunction with the 35th IIUM Convocation Ceremony 2019.

About 27 committee members and 23 volunteers got together at Rumah Perak, Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design (KAED), to prepare and distribute more than 800 packs of food to students, including IIUM community and parents who came for the convocation.

Among the activities carried out were doing things together (the practice of rewang), activities with the Rohingya children from Darul Eslah Rohingya Academy and also food distribution.

The programme manager, Mansor Alansori bin Mohd Amin, said the programme was primarily to foster a closer rapport with the external community and nurture the culture of sharing sustenance and tolerance among university students.

“The Rewang programme is an initiative by I-Congrats ’19 primarily to create closeness with the external community as well to celebrate those graduating from IIUM,” Mansor said, adding that “the programme managed to provide 800 to 1,000 meals for distribution to B40 students and also the IIUM community.”

The main dishes for Rewang activities include kurma ayam, mixed vegetables, ulam (dish), sambal (chilli paste) and Sun Quick orange juice which were prepared by the committees and volunteers monitored by the head chef of the mosque community, Batu 11 Gombak.

This programme began as early as 8.00 a.m and ended by afternoon with food distribution to students to mark the launching of the event. ***
