GOMBAK, 24 November 2019 – As we are capable of creating, giving and making a difference, we should not forget our responsibility as leaders of the ummah, advised Nurul Aulia Binti Zakaria.

The valedictorian who is from the Kulliyyah of Medicine, represented the graduands for the valedictory speech of session 2 of the 35th IIUM Convocation Ceremony yesterday (23 November).

Recalling her postgraduate journey for four years in IIUM, she managed to grasp the concept of Islamisation of knowledge as IIUM thrives in integrating knowledge and Islam in daily life.

She further noted that IIUM has bred many great Muslim professionals by nurturing students to achieve overall excellence academically, professionally as well as spiritually.

“Knowledge, regardless of the fields you’re in, is beneficial to the community. It is not a waste and learning is a continuous process as we must always strive to be better.”

She shared a life-changing event of her brother who passed away due to multiple organs’ failure and infection from extensive continuous seizure during her time of housemanship.

“I still remember vividly how I felt that day. I felt like a total failure. I was busy attending to other patients and I neglected my own brother. If only I had made the right call in a timely manner to rush him to hospital.”

She mentioned her epiphany that if only she had more knowledge, she would have handled the situation way better to which she then decided to pursue her study and be a specialist.

In her inspiring speech, the valedictorian called out to the graduands to work together as vicegerents of Allah in protecting this world from destruction and to uplift the condition of the community globally.

The speech ended with her congratulating all graduands of the 35th IIUM Convocation Ceremony 2019 and their parents as well as appreciations to the respective lecturers. ***
