GOMBAK, 24 November 2019: The President of IIUM, Datuk Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar, yesterday (23 November) called on graduates to understand what it means to be relevant through empowerment of Islamic knowledge.

In his opening speech during the 35th IIUM Convocation Ceremony at the IIUM Cultural Centre (ICC) in Gombak campus here, Datuk Dr. Daud explained that relevancy must be understood as wide as the bandwidth of Islam as a religion itself.

He said Islam in general offers knowledge as an integration between the knowledge of the revelation and the human intellect. Thus, separating one or the other from its shared component will make the relevancy of knowledge in Islam call for redundancy, he added.

œIn my view, good education will definitely make you relevant in leveraging your intellectual and emotional capabilities, he continued.

œIt helps to fit in all conditions that can help to overcome difficulties and hardships, and keys to success in this world and the hereafter.

Datuk Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar also encouraged graduates to make use of their talents and skills and urged them to embrace their comprehensive excellence as a by-product of IIUM.

The President also mentioned a reference to Surah Yusuf emphasising the importance for graduates to use their skillsets to become highly influencing and effective role models to the environment and surroundings. He therefore advised graduates to follow the footsteps of the Prophet in becoming the perfect role model.

His address ended with an honourable mention of the graduates parents, who he said, have looked forward to this day and have supported them throughout their journey as students.***
