GOMBAK, 11 October 2019: It was a historic moment as this is the first time that IIUM has partnered with SalamWeb to organise the Information Technology Sejahtera Festival 2019 (ITSEF ’19), aimed to introduce IT more widely among students, not only at IIUM, but also at other public universities.
The event held at Multipurpose Hall, Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology yesterday (10 October), was officiated by Madam Hasni Zarina, a representative from SalamWeb.
The Festival will last throughout 10 to 13 October this year.
In addition, it is intended to bring the values and importance of technology itself and to remind the campus community on how to use the social media and technology in the right manner and proper way.
SalamWeb is an internet browser developed by Malaysia-based Salam Web Technologies that calls itself a halal and sharia-compliant web browser for Muslims.
The browser includes filters for websites that feature alcohol, pork, pornography or gambling, prayer reminders and a compass that would point to Mecca.
Representative from SalamWeb, Madam Hasni Zarina, said, “As Malaysians, we need to be committed to play a part in driving Malaysia forward in the world of technology and information.”
She greatly expressed her gratitude and appreciations to IIUM and hoped to establish a long term relationship between the university and SalamWeb.
“We must have a proper niat (intention) in everything we do,” says the Dean of KICT, Prof. Abdul Wahab bin Abdul Rahman, during his speech at the launching ceremony of ITSEF’19.
Several programmes will be held during this festival, such as forum, industry talk, round town, light fest, tech fair, cyber kids, cat day, specialisation PEP talk, cyber creative challenge and cultural night.
The President of Information and Communication Technology Student Society (ICTSS), who is also the Executive Manager of this festival, Muhammad Luqman Mardi, expressed his hope that all IIUM citizens will be involved and committed to ensure success of the festival. ***
