GOMBAK, 21 April 2019 – Students and staffs of IIUM can now dispose their broken or old electronic appliances through E-Waste Collection.
E-Waste Collection Campaign was recently organised by Mahallah Aminah Representative Committee (MRC) from 8 to 20 April to create awareness on proper disposal of electronic wastes among the campus community. According to its programme manager, Fatin Amalia Khairul Anuwa, this campaign was launched for the first time in IIUM.
The electronic waste or e-waste consists of earphones, phone chargers, broken laptops, power banks and so on. These wastes need a special place to be disposed.
Fatin Amalia said, “The electronic wastes cannot be put together with domestic wastes as it contains chemical. Therefore, E-Waste Collection Campaign was launched to educate the students and staffs on the importance of e-waste.”
The disposal boxes are located in front of the Mahallah Office, cafeteria and each block in Mahallah Aminah.
Although the campaign ended on 20 April, the disposal boxes will remain in the hotspot areas.
