GOMBAK, 22 April 2019: IIUM woman hand ball team celebrated its second gold win beating UPSI 5-1 in the first day of ‘Karnival Sukan Suksis Universiti Awam Zon Tengah’ (SUKAT) on Saturday (20 April).
The IIUM team successfully scored two goals in the first half of the match leaving UPSI with zero. However, the opponent started to close the gap by scoring one goal in the early second half before IIUM team showed its aggressiveness in the next attack to score another three points.
The captain said, “We are really happy and felt grateful to God for winning the match because our effort in the training during a couple of months before the carnival was paid off.”
Meanwhile, the IIUM’s woman touch rugby team and woman futsal also achieved an impressive result receiving gold and silver medals respectively in the final match, while IIUM’s dodgeball received bronze for both male and female categories.
The contingent is still putting a big hope on the athletes to contribute more medals especially gold in the five remaining games that will be contested in the last day of the event. ***
