GOMBAK, 16 March 2019 – Gombak Project, to be implemented by the Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (KIRKHS) within two years, is aimed at striving to achieve Agenda 17 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The project aims to foster societal development that can bring impact to the lives of people and the world throughout the future.
Deputy Dean (Student Development and Community Engagement) of Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (KIRKHS), Dr. Mohd Noh Abdul Jalil, revealed that the Gombak Project was initiated by IIUM Rector, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak who realised that there was a lack of engagement of the IIUM community with the public.
This is to be materialised by addressing the issues of children, youth, elderly people, neighbourhood, crime, education, religious and ethnic groups.
œWe have launched five initiatives to intervene in these issues and three of them have been accepted. The first flagship is to develop curriculum in Gombak, while the second one is engaging with the youth followed by the community, Dr. Noh explained.
A total of eleven departments and nine students societies under the Kulliyyah will play their roles by proposing their programmes, in line with three of the flagships mentioned. One of the events that is going to take place is ˜The Kenduri Rakyat which will be held in April at Kampung Gombak Utara.
Dr. Noh also highlighted that the Gombak Project is expected to bring the community closer to IIUM through projects that benefit the people of Gombak.
IIUM community has been advised to actively participate in this project to ensure success and development of the area while cultivating the good spirit among the ummah. ***
