GOMBAK, 11 November 2018: Consumers Association of Penang (CAP), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), was conferred the 2018 Ibnu Khaldun Merit Award at the 34th IIUM Convocation ceremony held at IIUM Cultural Centre (ICC) on Saturday.
The award was presented by IIUM President who is also the Minister of Education, Dr. Maszlee Malik, for its contribution to the Malaysian society in organising consumerism awareness campaign and championing the rights for clean and safe environment.
Present at the convocation to receive the award was its president, Haji SM Mohamed Idris, as the associate representative.
“It is the first time an award was given to an NGO by a university,” said IIUM Rector, Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak.
According to Tan Sri Dzulkifli, this award is a new innovation for IIUM, not only to recognise a prestigious institute but also to award one with good reputation and contribution to the society.
He hoped that this would be the opening for more opportunities for the university to be closer to the people.
“Students and lecturers have to play their role which is to study the innovation that could develop our country’s socio-economy and contribute to the prosperity of the society,” the Rector said. ***
