GOMBAK, 10 November 2018: In an effort to pay tribute to national heroes who had sacrificed their life for the country, HISTFEST 2018 has come up with a theme that spells a difference – “Uniform Bodies as Pillars of Nation.”
Organised by the Secretariat History and Civilisation IIUM (HISTFORIUM IIUM), the association celebrated its third annual event this year which lasted for four days in Human Sciences building (HS square).
According to the Programme Manager, Muhammad Alif Wahab, it is important for IIUM uniform bodies and students to commemorate our national heroes and their services for our country.
“We strive to provide consciousness from the historical point of view, on every issue relating to military figures and military history events. For example, this year we raised stories among the uniformed units in Malaysia,” he said.
Apart from that, HISTFORIUM IIUM also wants to show that history not only revolves around politics and past administration, but even wider than that.
In this festival, there is a mini programme consisting of a variety of uniformed unit items exhibition, a cultural workshop by “Waris Alam” and a conservation workshop by the National Archives Malaysia.
“We’ll also conduct a talk with “The Patriot”, relaxing chat programme or coffee talk with alumni and closing ceremonies and lectures by Prof. Ahmat Adam,” he added.
Muhammad Alif expressed his hope that IIUM community would learn something through this festival as he believed that patriotism is still acceptable. To him, their main focus is a pillar in national development.
HISTFEST18 was held from 5 until 8 November, officiated by the Head of Department of History and Civilisation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arshad Islam on Monday (5 November). ***
