ISMEC2018 to discuss media industry issues and facilitate dialogues

GOMBAK, 24 September 2018 – The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) will hold the International Seminar on Media and Communication (ISMEC) 2018 on Tuesday (25 September) from 8a.m to 5p.m. at the Conference Room (Level 5), Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology, in its campus here in Gombak.

The seminar will be officiated by the Rector of IIUM, Prof. Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli bin Abdul Razak and moderators of the event will comprise of lecturers from IIUM’s Department of Communication.

The programme, led by the university’s Department of Communication, aims to assist media scholars and professionals in understanding the issues and values of the media industry, explore the role of media and communication in society, provide a platform to present and publish academic and research papers, and facilitate dialogue between academics and industry leaders.

The one-day event will feature a seminar on Media and Communication by three keynote speakers as well as three parallel seminar sessions showcasing prominent scholars who will share their insights on different topics.

The keynote speakers will be senior professor of IIUM’s Department of Communication, Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Syed Arabi Idid, a professor from University of Nottingham’s Media and Communication Studies in the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Dr. Zahrom Nain, and Chief Executive Officer of Astro Awani, Suhaimi Sulaiman.

Audience will have the opportunity to participate in the three parallel seminar sessions featuring scholars from a variety of public, private and international universities including IIUM, Taylor’s University College, Chulalongkorn University, and Islamic Bandung University. ***
