GOMBAK, 5 April 2018 – A forum on “Socio, Legal and Political Landscape: Media Literacy and Fake News”, will be held tomorrow (Friday) from 09.00 a.m to 12.00 noon in IIUM campus here.
Organised by the Department of Communication, Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (KIRHS) in collaboration with IIUMToday, and held at ADM LT 5, HS building, the forum will focus on issues of fake news and spread of false information which has now become a major global concern following the advent of Internet and development of social media.
Three prominent speakers have been invited as panelists – Dr. Nik Salida Suhaila binti Nik Saleh, the Commissioner of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM), Professor Dr. Ezhar Tamam of Universiti Putra Malaysia’s Faculty of Modern Language and Communication, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Radwan Jamal Yousef Elatrash, Head of the Department of Quran and Sunnah, KIRKHS, IIUM.
The forum will be moderated by Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Syed Arabi Idid, the senior professor at the Department of Communication who was also former rector of IIUM.
It will examine issues on the following topics: œFake News From a Legal Perspective, œMedia Literacy and Fake News and œFake News from Islamic Perspective.
