GOMBAK, 12 March 2018 -Â The Institute of Public Relations Malaysia Students’ Association (IPRMSA) – IIUM Chapter was able to attract a significant increase in membership in the last one year, hence making the association more visible to the campus community, its latest Annual General Meeting (AGM) was told recently.
Outgoing association’s president, Lailatul Fitriyah Matsaini said she was happy to note that there have been greater interests shown by the students towards the activities of the association. œWe have significantly increased the number of members which now stood at more than 100. Since we have opened up membership not only for Communication students but also students from all Kulliyyahs, there has been a good response, she said.
Members of the association, she added, were not only able to benefit from participation in the organisation of activities and involvement in event management, but also gained a direct exposure from contacts and networking with public relations professionals, the practice and the industry as a whole.
She thanked the main board members who have worked with her as a team and for their continuous support and commitment in bringing about success to the programmes and activities carried out during her tenure.
Held at Mini Auditorium last Wednesday (7 March), the AGM was attended by the main board members and senior and junior members of the association. Also attended the AGM was the associations External Advisor, Mr. Aznan Mat Piah, who is also the Honorary Secretary and Council Member of the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia (IPRM), a national public relations body.
The association’s Annual Report detailing out the programmes and updates of activities for the year that ended 2017 was presented by outgoing Secretary, Adrin Noor Alia binti Abdul Aziz. Meanwhile, outgoing Treasurer, Nur Ameera binti Mohd Naziree presented the Financial Report during the 2016/2017 tenure. She shared details of expenditure and budget over the past year, results of the incomes with expenditures and summary of financial statement.
Attendees were then invited to take part in an open discussion and to ask questions relating to the AGM’s agenda.
The AGM has elected third year public relations student, Afzal Nurshamiera Musa, to replace Lailatul Fitriyah as president.
In his closing remarks at the AGM, Mr. Aznan expressed appreciations to the main board for its effort and hard work in bringing about success to the association. He noted how the association under the dynamic leadership of Lailatul Fitriyah managed to perform well in promoting the association and in uplifting the image of public relations to where it is today.
He said, œIn the past three years, IPRMSA has been able to pick up very fast, especially under Lailas leadership. From the activities and the financial standing presented today, we can see they all worked very hard in raising funds and in organising activities.” He added, “Its not easy to conduct an activity, you really need to have certain skills, your persuasiveness and public relations skills come along, where you can apply what you have learnt to get people to support you.
Mr. Aznan also expressed the hope that the new main board would continue with the good work in accordance with the benchmark that has already been established.
